We’re proud to announce that the first day of the HighFIVE Final Event, 30th September, will take place at imec in Leuven, Belgium — a world-renowned research centre at the forefront of digital and sustainable innovation.

This opening day will shine a spotlight on SMEs and startups that have been central to HighFIVE’s mission: accelerating the digital and green transformation of the food industry through smart, scalable solutions.

Why imec?

As Europe’s leading hub for nanoelectronics and digital technologies, imec provides the perfect setting to kick off our final event. Its work in AI, sensors, and energy innovation aligns with HighFIVE’s core themes — from energy flexibility to data-driven sustainability.

As Kris Van de Voorde, Business Program Manager at imec, puts it:
“Looking into the future we will face huge challenges in the agrifood industry; growing population, harvest losses from climate crises, loss in arable land... Food is a limited resource. At imec we develop nanoelectronics and digital technologies which can help the food production ecosystem to optimize processes from farm to fork. Therefore we proudly support the HighFIVE Final Event ‘Smart Food Factory’ organised by Flanders’ FOOD and partners.”

By hosting our SME and startup showcase at imec, we’re placing the spotlight on the next generation of innovators who are translating research into real-world impact.

What to Expect on Day One

The imec programme will feature:
● Live demos and solution showcases from HighFIVE SMEs and startups
● Interactive sessions on digital tools, platforms, and use cases
● Networking opportunities with innovation leaders, R&D experts, and investors
● Guided exposure to imec’s own innovation ecosystem

This dynamic launch will offer participants a unique opportunity to see how digital tools are already reshaping the agri-food and energy sectors — and where the market is heading next.

Why This Matters

HighFIVE has championed collaborative innovation from the start, and SMEs have played a critical role in shaping and testing the project’s digital solutions. Hosting this showcase at imec — a hub built on applied science and industrial collaboration — reflects our belief in scaling innovation through partnerships.
