Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food

ILVO carries out research aimed at sustainable agriculture, fisheries and agri-food production, in Flanders and abroad. In doing so, ILVO engages in dialogue with policymakers, its stakeholders, and society. Its units Plant, Animal, Social and Technology and Food Sciences, work together in a multidisciplinary approach. ILVO has a large test infrastructure and several living labs, including the Living Lab Agrifood Technology (https://www.agrifoodtechnology.be). ILVO is a trusted partner in a wide range of regional and EU projects.

Innovative research on precision farming, digitalisation and data sharing is being done, by combining precision technology with intelligence (smart algorithms) and big data. A data sharing platform for the agri-food sector, DjustConnect, is set up. ILVO is also hosting the Digital Innovation Hub ‘Smart Digital Farming’ (SDF), and managing the Food Pilot in collaboration with Flanders’ FOOD.
